I want a Link…Precisely

Sometimes the benefits of getting links from a certain page on a site are quite significant.  I have recently been trying to get a link from a particular site.  The homepage was at first the most obvious place to go for the link but the more I delved deeper into the site, the more I found other pages that would have been more relevant to the site I was trying to optimize.

One particular page would have been far more useful to have a link on, in that particular case.  The content of the page was very relevant to my site, the page had a good amount of relevant backlinks going to it, it didn’t have any other external links on it and it ranked well for some of it’s keywords.

It is often useful to look further than the obvious when you ask for a link.  Sometimes website owners don’t know the value of their own pages.

It is useful to look beyond the toolbar PageRank, this is very often not a useful indicator of what a link on a certain page can do for your site.  Relevancy, amount, quality and age of the page’s backlinks and amount of external links already on the page are good indicators.

Sometimes being more precise can get you better results, it’s a matter of taking the time to do some research and often being different from everyone else.
